Puerto Rico offers visitors hundreds of beaches along its 414 kilometers of coastline, which offers all sorts of water sports. Public beaches in Puerto Rico also called "balnearios" have showers, lockers and parking fee and are open all year except on Mondays, Election Day and St. Friday. The most popular beaches are those of Luquillo and Vega Baja, near San Juan.Aquatic Sports Federation of Puerto Rico establishes the requirements and the lines of updates for the specialization of their members in diving, snorkeling, sailing, fishing, windsurfing and other water activities.
In San Juan and nearby surfers can play the sport at La Concha and Ariones in the summer and Pine Grove (Isla Verde), Parada Eight and the Condado Lagoon in winter. Other interesting beaches for surfing are: The Wall (in Luquillo) Tubes (near Laguna), Tortuguero (in Vega Baja). You can rent surf boards and articles of surfing in any sporting goods stores in these localities.
In Puerto Rico there are excellent conditions for practice windsurfing in any modality. Throughout the year there are good conditions for the longboard and slalon. For experts, the best time is the winter, by the Atlantic waves, strong and defiant.
The island is surrounded by an underwater forest of coral, with a depth of differences the world's largest. One of its attractions is the search for sunken galleons in the water. Fajardo is the capital of the island in terms of underwater sports. In addition to hotel facilities, there are several schools across the island and several companies that organize sailing and diving in the small keys on the East Coast.
