Public beaches in Puerto Rico also called "balnearios" have showers, lockers and parking fee and are open all year except on Mondays, Election Day and St. Friday. The most popular beaches are those of Luquillo and Vega Baja, near San Juan.

In Puerto Rico there are excellent conditions for practice windsurfing in any modality. Throughout the year there are good conditions for the longboard and slalon. For experts, the best time is the winter, by the Atlantic waves, strong and defiant.

Fajardo is the capital of the island in terms of underwater sports. In addition to hotel facilities, there are several schools across the island and several companies that organize sailing and diving in the small keys on the East Coast.
